What Is a Quartz Crucible?
A quartz crucible is a high-purity fused silica vessel designed to hold molten material — most often silicon — at very high temperature. Because it is almost pure SiO₂, it withstands the heat of melting and crystal growth while adding almost no impurities to the melt.
Why a fused silica crucible instead of metal, graphite or ceramic? Metals melt or react with the charge, graphite introduces carbon, and many ceramics shed particles or contaminate sensitive melts. A quartz crucible delivers the purity, thermal stability and clean melt contact that silicon crystal growth and analytical fusion demand, which is why it is the standard vessel for CZ pulling and solar silicon.

How to Choose the Right Quartz Crucible
Crystal growth, solar or lab?
CZ silicon pulling needs a crucible matched to the puller and charge; solar polysilicon needs a PV-oriented crucible; analytical fusion and melting use smaller lab crucibles. The use case sets the size, shape and grade.
Shape, size and lid?
Pick cylindrical or conical, tall or low form to suit your furnace and charge volume, and add a lid where you need to limit evaporation or contamination. We make all of these to order.
Which grade for my melt?
Silicon growth and PV need the cleanest, lowest-metal material; general lab melting can use a standard grade. We carry several grades, so the exact one is confirmed with our team against your process — not chosen from a code on this page.
