Quartz Glass Rod Manufacturer & Supplier

A quartz glass rod is a solid cylinder of high-purity fused silica prized for its rigidity, optical clarity and stability at high temperature. Also called a fused silica rod or quartz solid rod, it is used wherever a strong, contamination-free, optically clear bar is needed — from optical and fiber components to semiconductor fixtures and laboratory tools. FGQuartz has manufactured precision quartz glass rod since 2005 from Lianyungang, China, supplying standard and fully custom rods to buyers worldwide.

What Is a Quartz Glass Rod?

A quartz glass rod is a solid bar drawn or formed from high-purity fused silica. Unlike a hollow tube, the solid cross-section gives it greater rigidity and load-bearing strength, while the pure SiO₂ keeps it stable under heat, transparent across a wide light range and inert to most chemicals.

Why a fused silica rod instead of metal, ordinary glass or ceramic? Metal rods expand, oxidise and can contaminate sensitive processes; ordinary glass softens and clouds well below 900 °C; ceramics are opaque and harder to finish to optical quality. A quartz solid rod combines high-temperature strength with optical clarity and ultra-low contamination, which is why it is chosen for optical supports, fiber components and clean fixtures.

Key Properties of Fused Silica Rod

High Purity

High-purity fused silica with low metallic impurities keeps contamination-sensitive processes clean.

High-Temperature Stability

Continuous use to about 1200 °C and short excursions near 1300 °C, with a softening point around 1680 °C.

Mechanical Strength & Rigidity

The solid cross-section gives a quartz rod more stiffness and load-bearing strength than a hollow tube of the same diameter.

Thermal-Shock Resistance

A very low expansion coefficient lets the rod move between hot and cold zones without cracking.

Optical Transmission

Clear grades transmit UV, visible and infrared light, suiting light-guide and optical-support applications.

Chemical Inertness

Resistant to most acids and solvents (excluding hydrofluoric acid) for harsh lab and industrial environments.

How to Choose the Right Quartz Glass Rod

Clear vs. opaque?

Choose a clear rod when light must pass through it — light guides, optical supports and viewing parts. Choose an opaque rod when the part is purely structural or thermal and clarity is not needed.

Polished vs. ground?

Polished ends and surfaces matter for optical coupling and light transmission. A ground (matte) finish is the economical choice when you only need a precise diameter and a clean, non-optical surface.

Which grade for my use?

Optical and fiber work needs the clearest, lowest-contamination material; structural and furnace parts can use a standard grade. We carry several grades, so the exact one is confirmed with our team against your application — not chosen from a code on this page.

Not sure which to pick? Send us your diameter, length, finish and application and we will recommend the right material.

Quality Control & Why FGQuartz

Every quartz glass rod goes through a strict in-house quality process, with inspection at each stage:

  • Raw-material purity verification
  • Diameter and length measurement on every custom order
  • Surface and visual quality check
  • Optical and thermal performance testing where specified

Backed by experience since 2005, in-house machining for bespoke orders, a stable high-purity material supply and international shipping, FGQuartz serves optical, fiber, semiconductor, laboratory and industrial customers — from standard catalogue rod to one-off custom builds.

Quartz Glass Rod FAQ

What is a quartz glass rod made of?

It is a solid bar of high-purity fused silica, giving it far better heat, chemical and optical performance than ordinary glass or metal.

What is the difference between a quartz rod and a quartz tube?

A rod is solid while a tube is hollow. The solid cross-section makes a fused silica rod stiffer and stronger for supports and structural parts, whereas a tube is used to carry gas, liquid or wafers.

What temperature can a fused silica rod withstand?

A quartz rod works continuously to about 1200 °C, tolerates short excursions near 1300 °C, and softens around 1680 °C.

What is the difference between clear and opaque quartz rods?

Clear rods transmit light and are used for optical and light-guide work; opaque rods are used where the part is structural or thermal and clarity is not needed.

What is a polished optical quartz rod?

It is a rod whose surface and/or ends are polished to optical quality so light can pass through it efficiently — used as a light guide or optical support.

Can you supply optical fiber quartz rod?

Yes. We supply high-purity optical fiber quartz rod for use as starting rods and core material in fiber preform manufacturing.

What diameters and lengths can you make?

We supply rods from roughly 3 mm up to about 300 mm in diameter, cut to length, with ground or polished finishes.

Do you offer custom quartz rod machining?

Yes. We cut, grind, polish, drill, fire-polish and shape rods from DXF, STEP or IGES drawings, including single-piece prototypes.

Which grade should I choose?

We carry several grades, so we recommend the grade based on your application and confirm it before production rather than asking you to pick a code — this avoids costly misunderstandings.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes. FGQuartz ships quartz glass rod orders internationally and handles export documentation.
