According to experts, the crystallization of transparent quartz glass begins at 1000°C, becomes significant at 1200°C, and reaches a large value at 1525°C. The longer the time, the more serious the crystallization, the more α-cristobalite production, and the impurity ions and Surface contamination is the internal cause of crystallization, the more impurities, the faster and more crystallization.

Usually, crystallization always starts from more or less contamination points on the surface, and expands to the inside. Alkali metal and alkaline earth metal ions have a great influence on crystallization, which can reduce the crystallization start temperature by about 200-300 °C.

Quartz products that have undergone devitrification will produce cracks in the devitrification layer when cooled below 275°C. These cracks will extend to the part without crystallization until the whole product is broken. However, if the temperature is not lowered below 300°C, these crystallizations are still transparent.

To sum up, as long as the crystallized quartz product is always kept above 300°C, the crystallization layer will not be damaged, and the product can continue to be used for a long time.
